Good morning!


March is playing its usual tricks of snow, warm weather, wind, more snow ... But I am hanging in there. Today I saw crocus and daffodils pushing their way through the top crust of soil. It is all I need to hang on ... hope.

Oxford’s proposed budget for 2025-26 represents a 7% increase over last year, but overall spending is set to drop. Adjustments to capital equipment purchases and road maintenance could bring enough savings to allow the Fire & Rescue Department to begin 24-hour EMS staffing.


West Paris Water District accounting audits are going to start next month. A second, $20,000 loan from Androscoggin Savings will provide the quickest means for the troubled water utility to reset its accounting practices and move its improvement plans forward.


School Board directors for Oxford Hills asked Superintendent Heather Manchester is going to explore cost cutting measures ahead of the next school year, including consolidation of elementary schools with low enrollment. The directive was delivered during the school board’s business meeting Monday, after MSAD 17 learned that funding from Maine Department of Education is set to drop by more than $1 million in the next fiscal year beginning July 1.


Hebron voters approve town administrator position. All 38 warrant articles passed at Saturday's annual town meeting.


West Paris Water District office clerk is reinstated to post. Trustees voted to reinstate Clairluz Perez Lisboa two days after placing her on paid administrative leave.

BE AWARE: Rise in Banking Text Scam Attempts

In recent weeks, several customers of Norway Savings Bank have received a variety of fraudulent texts, falsely claiming to be from NSB, that ask you to click on links to deny fake charges or resolve fake activities.Please do not click on links in texts. NSB will never ask you to provide or confirm personal details or confidential information via text. If you think you may have clicked on one of these fraudulent texts, don’t panic. Just call the bank directly at 1-888-725-2207 and speak to a Norway Savings Bank Customer Care Center team member.

Sadly, these fraudulent texts are being received by customers at many banks across Maine and the country. Norway Savings Bank President and CEO Dan Walsh recently appeared on NEWS CENTER Maine to educate the community on the increase of scams in the banking industry and how best to handle the situation if they encounter one. THINGS TO DO 

Family Movie Night: Peter Rabbit! Paris Parks and Recreation, in partnership with Oxford Federal Credit Union, invites families to a free screening of Peter Rabbit on March 29 at 6 p.m. at the Paris Fire Station. Complimentary popcorn and treats will be provided, and attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket for a cozy movie experience.


Paris Vendor Fair returns.  Come support local businesses at the Paris Vendor Fair on March 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Paris Fire Station. Vendor tables are available for $10, while young entrepreneurs can participate for free.


Community Roast Turkey Dinner. The Paris Fire Department Auxiliary will host a Roast Turkey Dinner on April 5 at the Paris Fire Station. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., with dinner served at 5 p.m. Tickets are $9 for adults, $5 for children ages 4-12, and free for kids 3 and under.


This year's Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, April 12 at 10 a.m. at Norway's Lake Penn Park! Join us for an egg hunt, games, music, and photos with the Easter Bunny.


After school 4H-art program: Children will have the option to display artwork in fairs. The program will be held on Wednesdays, March, 26 and April 2 and 9. The cost is $35 per student; scholarships are available. Please reach out if a scholarship is needed. Registrations can be found online or in person at the Norway Town Office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
