Hello Friends!
Sociologist Ray Oldenburg calls home our "first place" and work our "second place." He suggests the "third place" is a public space that also feels relaxed, where you encounter familiar faces and have opportunities to meet new people.
What's your "third place"? Is it happy hour at Millbrook Tavern or the Lying Chair at Mill's Market? Maybe it's your friend's garage working under the hood, or whacking balls at Gould's pickleball courts?
Could it be the laundromat where you feel most comfortable? Perhaps it's the Buck's Ledge Lookout or in an ice hut below?
Does your "third space" have Internet access or is it tech-free? Is it a bustling spot for people-watching, or a quiet nook where you can think? Is it a judgement-free zone? Is it a cozy, familiar space — like the ice hut?
I have too many to count, but some favorites are upstairs in Bethel Library and at pretty much any coffee cafe! Please send me your third space.
