Hailey Ryann, 16, of Harrison, left, and Evan Parsons, 15, of Mason Township hang out on the common in Bethel during SummerfestRose Lincoln/Bethel Citizen

"I want excitement and I want to do something fast, furious, fun, scary, brave," said Meredith LaPointe, 11, of Bethel.

She plans to ride a roller coaster this summer. While bravery was never an issue for LaPointe, height was.

"I wanted to ride Dream Catcher (at the Fryeburg Fair) but I was an inch short. I was going to stand a little on my tippy toes ... then I thought, I'm not tall enough I'm going to slip out of the seat," she said.

Her friend, Anna Harvey, 10, of Bethel wants a quieter summer adventure.

"I want to catch a fish," she said. Harvey said she hopes it's a bass from North Pond, that she'll cook and eat. Maybe she caught the gene, since her mother's side of the family are all fishers.

Lying in the grass to share a laugh, going camping, watching the sunrise at Buck's Ledge or taking a leisurely drive through Grafton Notch — whatever summer has in store for you, I hope you savor it!

Rose Lincoln
