I've been binge-watching Yellowstone lately. Holy cow (pun absolutely intended) what a show.


This week in the Sentry, a new housing development has been proposed in Cape Elizabeth's town center, South Portland's city-wide revaluation causes concern, parking near Cliff House Beach, and more.

A 33-unit senior housing development has been proposed for Cape Elizabeth's town center. The Planning Board will soon consider a slew of zoning amendments that would make the project possible.

South Portland's citywide revaluation has spurred tax increases and caused concern for many in the community. City councilors last week said they must find a way to avoid revaluations causing such big increases in the future.


Cape Elizabeth staff will analyze parking at Cliff House Beach to help come up with a solution to nearby residents' traffic and safety concerns in the area.

THIS DAY IN HISTORY

A group of South Portland girls receive swimming lessons at the Portland YMCA, part of the South Portland Parks and Recreation Commission's summer recreation program.

Aug 22, 1956: The Portland Evening Express reported that thousands of South Portland youth participated in the city's summer recreation program.

Some highlights included hundreds of kids learning to swim at the YMCA in Portland, an average of 30 kids per day playing at the Willard Beach playground, and plenty of baseball diamonds.

THINGS TO DO

Friends of Casco Bay will be hosting an event at Willard Beach on Sept. 19 at 5:30 p.m. Attendees can observe eelgrass beds, erosion and algae during low tide. For more information, click here.


The Cape Elizabeth Police Department will host a movie night on Aug. 30. The movie IF will be played at the Fort Williams Park Parade Ground beginning at 7:45 p.m. For more information, go to the town's website, capeelizabeth.com.
