Remember when, not long ago, Americans were cooking Ukrainian food in solidarity with Ukraine? After Russia invaded its neighbor in 2022, borscht and chicken Kiev (also Ukrainian flags) suddenly showed up all over the place.
In the same spirit, and as Canada's nearest neighbor, may I propose we eat and cook Canadian this week? True, we haven't invaded, just hit it with 25% tariffs (ouch) and proposed it become America's 51st state. Seriously? My mom is Canadian, also most of my grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins.
Here's to them, and Montreal bagels, poutine, split pea soup, tourtiere, quiche (admittedly French, but mom is from Quebec, so I say it counts), buche de Noel (ditto), pouding chomeur, beaver tails, nanaimo bars and more. Instead of a sit-in, an eat-in. For starters, can we be a little civil, please, when at the table with old friends?
